On the campus east of Old Main stands a memorial to University of Arkansas students killed in the line of duty in World War I.

The University infirmary was busy during the influenza epidemic in the autumn of 1918.

When the United States enters the World War I, a Student Army Training Corps is organized to supply college trained officers, and practically all the male students are in the army.

Twenty-nine University of Arkansas alumni die in the line of service during World War I.

Some Fayetteville women organized an Infirmary Society to take care of the sick during the Influenza epidemic of 1918. Despite their efforts, fourteen students died.

The Smith-Lever Act, authorizing federal funds to establish a system of county agricultural agents is enacted in 1914, boosting the funds for U of A's college of agriculture.
